This place was so cutely placed in a little shopping area. It's unfortunate that it's so far in the back. I think the sushi was actually really delicious. I cannot eat raw sushi for a few months but it looks really quality and the sushi chefs are really good. The food I did have, the miso soup and the twin dragons, were really delicious. Sometimes it's hard to find a place where the miso soup is nicely prepared. The first time I had this place, the eel was a bit squishy but the second time the eel was much better. I'll probably come a 3rd time before I leave San Antonio on Jan 15th.

Snuck away on my lunch break for a solo sushi date (my favorite!). I went here.. hadn't been in several years.. and it's better than I remember! Friendly and attentive staff and chef! I tried the IZ roll and got a salmon hand roll and it was delicious! This restaurant is tucked behind a couple buildings behind Press Coffee. The sushi is good, not my favorite in San Antonio, but good! I'd return :)

I like this little hidden gem. The inside is spacious, warm, and inviting. Our waitress was great and explained the menu. We ordered the Sara roll, hand roll, tuna sushi, tappanyaki (chicken) and a couple of te-maki's. The food was fresh and yet flavorful. The Sara roll was probably my favorite thing on the menu.

Amazing service, waiter was super nice. The designs of the menu, the bar just the building in general is perfect. And the food was absolutely delicious. From the poki to the A5 Wagyu, everything was just perfect. 10/10 my only gripe is my stomach wasn't big enough for more.

We loved it so much My kids loved the teriyaki chicken kids boxes. The sushi was excellent. I highly recommend the surf and turf and it's a great location for a date night. Can't wait to come back. Excellent service.

Although very isolated and hidden, this was a great sushi spot! Very limited parking around so keep that in mind. We went Friday night and there wasn't really that long of a wait, so that was a plus. We ordered a few different roles - First Kiss and Samurai (pictured with the avocado and dots of sriracha) the other rolls I don't remember the names but were really good! I specially liked the shrimp tempura role with what looked to be spicy tuna on top.

My number go to for sushi! Quality of food, above reproach. The service was excellent and we never went without a refill. I he food is prepared per order so we got a tasty cucumber salad while we waited. Ambiance is so much like restaurants in Japan. Not overly done, very serene, very clean, immediately greeted upon entering...can't say enough about this place!

We had excellent service by a young lady this evening-it's a small sushi restaurant tucked away in the back of a little shopping village that doesn't seem very active. However the restaurant was surprisingly busy for a Tuesday night. Here we found: -chicken karage 3/5 meh -gyoza 5/5 thin skinned- very good - needed to add more soy sauce to the dipping sauce -miso soup 4/5 -seaweed salad 3/5 huge quantity -Tempura udon 4/5 standard fare Veggies could be done a little more -California roll 2/5 meh I don't like crab salad- very little avocado and I couldn't find the cucumber -spider roll 4/5 huge roll -Chronic roll 4/5 -first kiss roll -red devil 4/5 -chicken teriyaki - 2/5 no grill marks-sauce needs work -fatty tuna from Japan 5/5 excellent, fresh -madai from Japan- 5/5 another winner

Came here for the first time for a friends birthday. It's definitely a popular place for lunch on a Saturday and the place was full but we still got great service. The food came out fast and the server was very attentive and quick. I tried the gyoza and fiesta roll which were both delicious. The gyoza are large and the spicy tuna in the roll has more of a kick than normal! My friends got the sushi boat and it was a beautiful presentation. The restaurant is at the back of the boardwalk area near the Witte and faces the park/river for a nice view.

I can't sing enough praises about Koi Kawa! It's exactly what my husband and I had longed for in a while. My husband is originally from Maui and definitely a sushi connoisseur in my opinion! I trust his opinion whole heartedly. We moved here from Florida and sadly, after searching far and wide for months we just did not find the quality of sushi we are used to. I first searched and read articles and blogs on good sushi in the San Antonio area and reading one article that mentioned Koi Kawa getting some of their fish from Japan sold me on it! I knew this place would be special. Yelp also had raving reviews but mostly I just felt this place would be a hit! It's a bit hidden in the plaza it's in and aesthetically the location itself was so Zen and welcoming! There's a small pond outside and large glass windows that allow natural light to pour into the entire restaurant. We ordered edamame and hamachi sashimi as appetizers! The hamachi was phenomenal. The perfect cut , temperature, quality and consistency! We each ordered a roll and they were also above par! The roll I ordered is the "281" and my husband ordered "the Bellagio" roll. Just a warning, the Bellagio is pretty spicy! As if the quality of sushi wasn't enough, the presentation of the dishes is so detailed. I am very appreciative of details like this! Our server Alex is wonderful server! Very prompt and attentive to our needs! I am so grateful to have found this gem of a sushi restaurant and I cannot wait to return and try new rolls and items on their menu ! Arigato Koi Kawa for such a wonderful culinary experience!
